I don't know what you've tried,but the simple choices are......double click the speaker symbol on you task bar (lower right hand side of screen) in the mixer that opens you check all the controls to see what has been muted the "SPDIF" being muted is OK but look at the other settings..the first one on the left is master "volume control" if that is muted un-check the little box - lower left of that colum or if the slider is down at the bottom of the scale use your mouse to adjust it up and try to listen to something if that hasn't solved the problem I'd advise going to a Dell forum (search the internet) or contact Dell and ask.

Ha ha - my Dell was 12 months and 20 days when the motherboard died. Their computers are rubbish. Try making sure that your speakers didn't accidently come unplugged, and that they are turned on. Sometimes a wire is unplugged - either to power - or into one of the speakers. Also go into control panel/sound and make sure that you didn't accidently turn the mute on.

I had this problem in my then 9 months old dell (good machine) and I discovered my cat had bitten through a speaker cable,go into sound counsel and check mute box as a last resort.

check that cables to your speakers are in, try going into control and checking the volume is on high
