15 minutes pus 3 min for each sq meter
y=15+3x
y=3x+15

part 2
y=3(500)+15
y=1500+15
y=1515 minutes

for 15$ commission per sale
add 15x to base salary
y=15x+215

part 2
350=15x+215
135=15x
x=9

Your question: It takes a work crew 15 minutes to set up its equipment and 3 minutes to paint each square meter of a wall. Relate the total number of minutes (y) it takes to complete a job to the number of square meters (x) to be painted.

Answer: 15 minutes is set up time. Constant. 3 minutes for each sq. meter. y = 3x + 15 is the answer and will be a straight line

Next: If the paint job described above consists of 500 square meters, how long will it take to complete the job?

Answer: 500 X 3 minutes plus the 15 minutes set up time. We are assuming that in between they did not break and the set up was not disturbed. 1515 minutes.

Next Question: Shaoli Hyatt earns a salary of $215 a week, plus a $15 commission for each encyclopedia she sells. Relate her total pay for one week (y) to the number of encyclopedias she sells during the week (x).

Total pay per week y = 215 + 15 x = 15x + 215 as per your question's choice

How many encyclopedias must Shaoli sell to receive $350 for one week?

Ans: 350 - 215 /15 = 135/15 = 9 encyclopedias

This is a pretty easy question.
Question1
Since y denotes the time crew takes and x is minutes to paint.
consider we have to paint x sq.meters of the wall.
So the time utilized in painting the wall would be 3x minutes and the time to set up the equipment is 15 minutes.Therefore the total time used up to paint is 3x+15 which is denoted by y.
so y=3x+15 is the first answer.
Now given that x=500(as x denotes the area of the wall/whatever to be painted),therefore putting the value of x in above eqn. we get y=515 minutes which is the req. answer.

Question 2
Minimum salary of Shaoli Hyatt is $215. let the no. of encyclopedias she sells during the week be x.Therefore net commission is $15x and her salary for that week would be$(215+15x) which is nothing but y(week's salary).
therefore y=215+15x is the answer to the second question.
Now for the second part of the question we have been given y(denoting her weekly salary)=350
Now, if i put y=350 and solve for x i would get
350=215+15x
or 350-215=15x
or 135=15x
or x=135/15
or x=9 which is our req. answer.

y = 3x +15

500 = 3x + 15
485 = 3x
x = 161 2/3 minutes

y = 215 + 15x

350 = 215 +15x
135 = 15x
x= 9 encyclopedias
