Do you expect the best from others or the worst?
When people compliment you do you feel that they are sincere or that they have an unterior motive?
Why to all of the above?

I usually trust people until they give me a reason not to trust them. If I get a compliment, I take it with good grace.

I usually distrust when I first meet. Trust is earned as far as I'm concerned. I expect the best from people but set myself up for the worst. I don't feel people are sincere when they compliment, unless I know them well enough to feel like they are sincere.

Call me naive, but I usually trust people that I meet and assume they have good intentions - and when/if it happens that they prove me wrong, I'm extremely disappointed. Just too trusting, I guess!
And to add to this, I do not form an opinion on someone based on others' feelings, I like to know the person and form the opinion myself. I won't dislike someone just because everyone else does.

As far as compliments go, I consider the source. I can usually tell if the person's being sincere or if there's another reason behind the compliments.

Really great question, btw.

Im usually neutral about them, i dont think that everyone´s a saint or a liar when i first meet them. Why?..well, cuz i dont know them...i dont judge people before i get to know them, so even if they seem kinda shady, i´d still give them a chance to prove otherwise.

I always hope for the best, but expect the worst from others. Why? I cant speak for everyone, but its just kinda how i´ve learned to be after my experiences.

They dont necessarily have to have an ulterior motive to compliment me, but no i dont really think its sincere, but i know that some people just want to be polite, so yeah.

I don't trust what people say when I first meet them.
I expect the worst in everyone but want to believe they will do their best.
I feel, when complimented, that people have an alterior motive.

Why? Been screwed over too many times and have become cynical in my old age :)

Hope for the best, expect the worse. You'll never be dissappointed that way. I tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt at least once. Sometimes though, you meet someone and they just .......bother you. No matter how nice they are, you just don't like them. I've only met a few people in my life like that.

I trust everyone until they prove me wrong. I always expect them to be the same way I would be with them, only to end up realizing they suck! And when people compliment me I know they have a reason.
