There are 2 ways to apply, by yourself or through one of the immigration agencies/lawyers. The cheapest option is to apply by yourself by going to the Australian High Commissions closest to where you live, since you do not have to pay the agent/lawyer to do it on your behalf. However, most of the time, the agent/lawyer can advise you the best way to proceed and sometimes can give you preliminary advise on your chance on migrating successfully, based on your situation. So as you can see, there are some positives and negatives in each option.
