Of course not. I've never heard anyone in tinsel town comment on politics, have you?
I didn't even watch. I knew it would be a farce. They should be intelligent enough to know that when they politicize an award, the public will become bored, the program will loose sponsers, and the award will eventally die out. But, hey, an amazingly large percentage of actors and other entertainers never graduated from high school. And most lack college degrees. So whoever dreamed up the idea that their opinion counts for much wasn't thinking about that.
I may know how to repair a watch and be the best watch repairer in the world, but that doesn't mean I have enough background and knowlege about politics to make a reasonable comment.
I figure the same applies to ententainers. When they are asked an indepth question they look like a deer in the headlights. So most interviewers just give them easy questions.
I quit watching the awards because I got tired of hearing the political comments by the MC, the presenters, and the recipients. It gets kinda old. I'm there to be entertained, not to hear their lame comments.
And now they've gone to giving awards based solely on the political comments of the recipients. The Dixie Chicks swept everything they were nominated for. Does anyone really believe that the Dixie Chicks deserved all 5 of those awards more than the other people that were in the running? But the Dixie Chicks make political comments onstage, so that makes them great artists? Come on, give us a break.

It's interesting that NO ONE who has claimed that the awards were politically motivated has made a case that someone else in any of the categories was more deserving of one of the awards based on a musical basis. These knee jerk responses are the definition of prejudice without arguments to back their opinions. And if the awards are politically motivated, you should name others who also got their awards last night for political reasons. I don't see any sensible opinions, let alone facts.
I don't care that much about The Dixie Chicks, so I had to look up some information to find out if they had ever won a Grammy award before. (I had no idea.) It turns out that they have won seven previous Grammys (is that the plural of Grammy?) in various categories. They have won Best Country Album three times before this, and they have won the award for Best Country Duo or Group three times. So their awards in these two categories shouldn't be a total surprise. Then they won Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year (and I've NEVER understood the difference between the last two). Will someone at least make a persuasive argument that someone else should have won in these categories and therefore you are suspicious?
What is NOT in doubt is that this group has been blacklisted from certain radio stations for their political views. Even if they weren't necessarily the best and therefore deserving of all their awards (and again, I haven't seen a persuasive case that they weren't), it seems like they were probably pretty good, based on their history as a group. What happened at the radio stations was that people ignored their musical judgments in favor of politics. I haven't read any complaints about that even thought that's exactly what some are so angry at the Grammy Awards about.
Once again, instead of emotional thumbs up or down, could someone respond with facts and musical judgments?

good question, the majority of the votes are determined by actors who are members of the Recording Academy (which included popular artists as well behind-the-scenes folks like producers and editors). I would assume that the Academy is made up of persons who represent all political positions...what I question is the win by carrie underwood for best new artist...chris brown or james blunt should have won...that was a highway robbery..no joke.

You know, I never used to think that it was, but after last night's wins, I do. I do not know who gets to take part in the judging, but would be interested in finding that out.

Honestly, who cares? Its just a lot of self congratulatory people who like to think their opinions matter. When you come down to it, the man next door probably has a more informed opinion than a 'star'. Especially the Dixie Chicks. If you pooled the intelligence of all of them you may have enough for one half wit.
