Coal...I love to warm the cockles standing with my back to the fire......we always keep a toasting fork above the fire and scoff late night toast and marshmallows...Around November time we put chestnuts in the ash tray and roast them..Ya can't do that on a gas fire..and the shadows on the wall are brill.

We've got gas which is nice and clean, but I'd love a proper wood burning open fireplace, with maybe a log cabin in the mountains to go with it.

i miss the smell of turf...logs..etc...but the smoke...fumes etc..are worse for the lungs etc..
