A Short pitched ball always get the treatment it deserves either by going back-foot or moving forward and converting it into a full toss ball. If the short-pitched delivery end up as a bouncer then it is very difficult to face because either you have to duck or try to make a hook-shot. Ducking may be seen as a cowardliness and if you don't time the ball properly, you will give an easy catch behind the wicket or the the gully area.
