I remember my Lite Brite better than any other toy. Don't know why...something about a box with a light bulb in it was just too cool! Yes, they still make it, along with countless variations! Thanks for the memory!

I remember most all the toys I had as a child and most of the ones that the other writers had. Some of my favorites were...

Jingle Jump
Superball (the original)
Super Stuff
Robbie Robot
Creepy Crawlers
Incredible Edibles
Easy Bake Oven
Flinstone Building Bolders
Lie Detector Game
Mystery Date
Punch Balls
Lincoln Logs
Mr Potato Head
Colorforms
Rub Ons
Magic 8 Ball
Super Elastic Bubble Plastic
Crazy Foam

ok...I could go on and on!

Some are still sold, but others like Super Stuff, are gone forever :(

Mattell used to make a toy called a Vac-U-Form, later called a Vac-U-Maker. It was a red metal box with a heating element on one side, and a hand powered vacuum on the other. On the top of this box was a toggling metal contraption that held a pre-cut piece of colored plastic. You would heat the plastic over the heating element until it was soft, and then toggle the hot plastic sheet to the other side, where a mold was placed over the vacuum area. You would then force the hot plastic over the mold, pump the vacuum, and you would have a plastic copy of the mold. They also had upgrade kits where one could make actual hot molten plastic, and pour it into molds to make plastic toy soldiers and creepy little monsters (Creeple Peeple)

Needless to say, in this day of rampant nannyism and gratuitous lawsuits, no toys that involve a heating element and semi-molten plastic are permitted, and in all honesty, it's a wonder I never set the house on fire. I sure did have a lot of fun with it, though!

There are six that stick in my mind that has turned me into a toy collecting geek. All are action figures
1) Incredible Hulk-MEGO collection (late 1970's)
2) Arnold Schwarzenegger-Commando (1980s)
3) The Real Ghostbusters-Egon, Ray, Peter and Winston(before they ruined them with later editions) (80's)
4) Storm Shadow, Tomax and Xamot (1980s Gi Joe)
All of them were relatively cheap by today's standards but have made their proud owners alot of money on eBay.

My favorite toy from away, away back, was Tinker Toys. They were packed in a round box, and consisted of little wooden circles with holes drilled in them , and a collection of wooden dowels. I loved being able to assemble these things and make a variety of structures, It was a never ending challenge to assemble them in different ways. I don't know if they are still on the market, but should be. Best wishes.

I like the Alf toy that they made back in the 80's and they no longer make them. they used to have the voice box in the back of them. I have one, but it doesn't have that box thing where you hear Alf talking.
