Is it possible for a small town to live by its 1800 tenets and hope to thrive? I think of the Shaker People who are holy. The best at crafting furniture and household items.
The only thing is they don't believe in sex, so they are dying out. Is that good? Any ideas?

I wasn't putting the Shaker's down in any way. They are obviously very spritual and I wasn't talking about sex or no sex, I meant that they cannot continue to grow without procreation.....yipes

It does not grow and it is usually the voters fault because in most little towns most of the voters are over 65 and they do not want change,

That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen today. Of course these people have sex just not meaningless sex, meaning that they have sex to have children and have fulfilled their lives in other ways. Dont criticise them just because they are different but respect their choices. I doubt that the Amish people will let their beliefs or ways die out and be forgotten. However many townships creak to a stop and cease to exist but the people spread out and diversify.

It totally depends if you like the people or not. Either way If they all die off and have no children to live in the town then no I dont think the town would last. Some bodys having kids or the town would die as soon as the postmaster was to old to work. Where I live there is alot of old folks

The very nature of growth is to evolve and change. But by doing this, you do not have to give up your morals and beliefs. However, if a town has a negative population growth, it will eventually disappear and all the culture of it's people shall be lost as well.

Amish live pretty much like the Indians did and don't over use the land. They still have grown, and have spread out into other regions. You wouldn't know this unless you were Amish though.
