You've got it wrong--the motto is "Neither rain nor snow nor DARK OF NIGHT will keep these couriers from their appointed rounds."

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds". That's a very old motto.. that might be centuries old, in fact for mail-carriers. No where in there, does it say a thing about Sunday or any day of the week. PS -- Next time YOU work 7 days a week, or even today instead of wasting time on Yahoo Answers... you can talk. Besides, you think you're that interesting that you get mail everyday? Or, are you an ebay or QVC delivery/addict?

I think you have the quote a bit wrong little one:

"Neither rain nor hail nor sleet nor snow nor heat of day nor dark of night shall keep this carrier from the swift completion of his appointed rounds."

It does not say a word about Sunday...guess God even outweighs the postal service. GBY

When the post office was first form most people where Christan and would not work on Sundays. It just happens that is has not changed. Plus, ever one should get a day off.

It doesn't say "day of week". I believe it only refers to the weather and to dark of night. Anyway, it's a motto, not an official statement of legal guaranty. (Although I think they do a pretty good job of living up to it -- I only recall ONCE, on the day of the Great Ice Storm of l991, when the mail didn't get delivered.)

It's a weekend day actually...but it doesn't say anything about holidays in there does it and they seem to get more holidays than I do!

And if I remember correctly...when Colorado was having their snowstorms one right after another, I think they did cancel mail delivery.

They have to rest up for the days when it's snowing, sleeting, or raining. Everybody needs a little rest here and there, and their jobs are not easy!
