Two miles isn't outer space only a bit over 11,000 ft. There were several instances documented during WWII of bomber crewmen falling great heights and surviving. At least one< I remember fell into a freshly plowed field, landed feet first, and didn't even break any bones. The german troops who captured him didn't believe it until they found where the plane crashed. They found his parachute in the plane, exactly where he told them it was when he was blown out.
