STRONG- to me is emotionally stable.
that you are already in the winning side,
that everything is bearable when it comes
to life's circumstances.
that you won't be swayed away by the troubles
by the negative attitude of others around you
that you would stand your belief knowing you're
right.
that you make your own decisions and you made
it right, and not let anyone tell you what to do
that you have the power to turn the negative into
positive
that everything and everyone is in the hopeless
but you remain positive and hopefull
that you can be an example to follow.
that you are ready for anything that may come
your way.
that you know you'll be standing firmly in the midst
of of a storm.
And that you'll remain standing even you're standing alone.

"Strong" means being emotionally tough...not "suppressing" your emotions, that is actually weakness (because you fear them) but having the strength to show your emotions in a healthy, stable way. Being able to survive tragedy, and become a better person for it, instead of letting it destroy you. Being able to take whatever life throws at you, and remaining a positive, good person. Being able to stand by your convictions, even in the face of adversity. Not compromising your morals. Being able to put other's needs before your own, without becoming a doormat. That's "my" meaning, anyway. You won't find it in a dictionary, but if you wanted the dictionary definition, I'm assuming you would've looked it up and not asked anyone here for their opinion.

"Strong" in reference to women indicates a combination of qualities. As a pretty common buzzword, it generally implies a woman who can emotionally (sometimes physically) protect herself and succeed professionally in the world in the face of overwhelming personal setbacks like divorce, child custody, glass ceilings, disease, family/relationship problems etc.
Other cheesy buzzword substitutes can be found in the thesaurus under "survivor", "fighter", or "independent".

Physically strong - this one´s obvious
Emotionally, menally strong - being able to resist hardship and stress, stoic, in control of ones emotions
Confidence, charisma - being able to influence others who see you as a leader
You´ll probably get many a feminist answer here sicne this is feminism studies, but honestly, strength is a male trait. Females are caring, sensitive and socially aware, but when it comes to being strong, men excel.
p.s. independence could be used to describe strength, but only if one can survive hardships on their own I suppose.

if you refer to women and strong, and add a little feminism spice to it, you can come to the conclusion that since most feminism miss an important organ called the brain cells, i repeat, brain cells, if you would say they don't have brains then you are very very wrong my friend, they have a brain, just no brain cells to make the brain work, it's like an empty cage, whenever someone throws in some crap, it echos around till it mixes with their blood.
and now to answer your question
Strong can be divided into subgroups into different categories, Strong as in physically strong, mentally strong, having alot of guts, or else strong can also be called your will power, your capacity to do certain things.
example, say you are trying to pull a bucket of water from a well with the help of a pulley, a strong person will basically grab the robe and start pulling the bucket full of water, while for example, a feminist will stand there and try to seduce guys, who basically and naturally are more stronger and have physically more developed muscles for lifting weight such as, but some guys won't fall for their crap flirtation tactics and will just give them the eye and pass on, here , two people can be compared to strong, The man who didn't help was strong as in to resist his natural affection towards women because he knows feminist are purely bred men in women bodies, since they shout all day to be equal to men, and the feminist can be said here 'not strong' since she can't pull a bucket of water out of the pulley, she might as well jump in there and drown herself, but that would be the wishful thinking of the guy who just passed the her and didn't help her.
so basically, man is stronger then feminists in regards to physical & emotional!. Strong thus meaning, better then others in regards to situation and conditions.

I know far more emotionally strong women than men. Men aren't even strong enough to let themselves express emotion half the time, they're too SCARED someone might think theyre a wuss...

Can defend themselves emotionally against men...
.. Including defence against attacks that men don't realise they are making.
.. And defence against attacks that men have made in the past.
.. And defence against attacks that men haven't made in the past but could potentially make in the future.
.. And against passive attacks where the man doesn't do something the woman needs.
.. And against the man potentially passively attacking by not doing something the woman needs.
Men who defend themselves against this do so because they are threatened by it.
