Mine started, then stopped. For over a month now, if I try to get her to say 'mama' she laughs and says 'dada'. It's weird, too, because if she is upset, hurt, or hungry, I'm the one she wants- but she'll cry 'dada' while reaching for me.

It sounds like she may be confused and think you are "dada". Or maybe through further language development she is currently unable to make the sound "mama" now and so she uses "dada" because she knows that is a sound for someone who loves her. I am sure she will come around eventually. I don't know how old your child is but I have a home daycare and all of the kids were saying "mama" and "dada" by a year old. However I have found they all had a preference for saying "dada" even when they could say "mama". Don't fret. Keep correcting her everytime she calls you dada and don't worry. She will say it eventually.

lol. confuddled kid. i'd personally b worried dat i looked like babe's dad! anyway. my friends lil boy said 'dada' for the 1st time the other day, highly cute n everything, but he's now just screaming agn. i've heard that loads of kids say summat 4 a bit, then stop for a few months and it summat 2 do wiv their brain has established the connection of speach n is now taking in different words that it hears. try saying 'mama' when she reaches out 2 u so she gets that their is a difference between mama n dada. oh..n me m8s baby is 10 months old..ahhhh

My 10 month old has now started to cry for Mama alot now. All he used to say was Dada. At this age, I figure he is using both interchangably.

My son starting saying mama around 6-8 months old. I'm not sure if he was actually saying it but he made sounds that sounded just like mama.
