Dont listen to them critics you should always carry a pencil and pad on you so you can always write lyrics of everyday happenings around you and in your life and I guarantee you will write better songs or just read poetry.Obviously you must not have a bad voice maybe your not putting your heart in it maybe the passion is gone.Maybe you should think about it and see if singing is exactly what you want.Good luck Peace

Been there, tried that.
It may not be a lack of insiration. Often as you probably know, petty jealousies rear their ugly heads.
Move ahead, but not alone.
I do not know into which area you want to go, if selling your recorded material, that is something you might do alone. But you sure can't perform alone.
People like to see a band.
Who is it that puts you down?
Why would you value their opinion of you more than your own opinion of yourself?
Something to remember: Don't let others define you.
If you want reinforcement, get others into a group. They will have an investment in it then of their own time, labor and money.
You can do it if you keep trying.

You know who else used to get put down about their musical abilities? Bono, John Denver, George Harrison, David Bowie, Tori Amos, I could go on and on. The point is as long as you're happy creating music you can go on. I write music purely for my own enjoyment..therapy even.... it's almost something I have to do, not something I want to do, like I gotta get it out!!! I couldn't care less what others say about my music, that's pretty much the attitude that anyone should have when they create something if you ask me... If all artists gave up because of something some hater said, the world would probably be a lot greyer so keep at it. :)

Is it the inspiration or your level of talent? Maybe you need lessons or to practice more.

Try listening to your favorite bands or reading some poetry to get your mind into gear if you need inspiration for lyrics.

Or try hanging up a poster of your favorite bassist to get you motivated.

A lot of people who go into music themselves feel like that. Maybe because they don't have anyone else with them and they don't have anyone to tell them how they feel about their music.
I would say keep on going on by yourself or maybe find a new band.
Just don't quit doing music if that's what you like :]
