I really wanted to buy some Native American jewlrey, pottery, decor...etc. Where is the best place to buy that? I've read that there are just stands on the side of the road...should I buy it there? Where is the biggest rip-off (i.e. not really native, but made in Korea..)? I'd like any tips or warnings you can give me..thanks!

What a beautiful and scenic drive! Yes, there are many roadside places to purchase authentic southwestern treasures, and most of them are real. I've driven across both states many times, and I was surprised at the difference in prices from one roadside store to the next. Check the labels, and they will tell you who made it and where it's from. The authentic things are usually attached to a card that tells a little about the group or person who makes the product, and that's as much fun sometimes as the product itself. You'll have a wonderful time, and don't worry about authenticity because the south westerners take so much pride in the things they make that even the store clerk will sometimes have a story about the people who sell them the souvenirs. good luck

Just look up how many Native American Indian Reservations there are to visit, and make your purchases there. One, you'll know you'll be getting the real thing; and second, you'll be supporting people that need the support. You'll also be able to take in a lot of shows and live entertainment as well...and don't forget to try the food too!

I would forget the "gas station gift shops" and probably most at hotels too.

you'll love going through arizona, its beautiful, i recomend old town scottsdale, its about 5 miles east of phoenix, and its a great place to buy native american jewlrey and accessories. another great place is sedona, which is about 2 hours north of phoenix, which is so worth the drive, great shops, tours and beautiful red rock cliffs towering over the city, i hope you have a great trip!
