They tried the dollar coin with the Susan B Anthony and the Sacajawea coin and they both flopped and they still have thousands of them sitting in the mints. They think that people will like these more than the others since they will be like the state quarters with a different one every few months. It is cheaper for them to make the coins then the dollar bill. But I would rather have 10 one dollar bills in my pocket over 10 one dollar coins. Also with the quarters, people are saving them and they are not in circulation maybe they are counting on that with these. My opinion is that they will flop as well.

My first thought was why in the hell are they making a dollar coin, if they aren't planning on replacing the paper bill with it. I think it's kind of pointless. I guess it will be something for coin collectors.

I actually think it's kind of stupid. vending machines will not recoginze a dollar in coin form, the same thing happened when they had that sacajawa (sp?) dollar. it got stuck in vending machines, was not recognized as a dollar and is given to people often by accident.

It won't fold into my wallet, and they are too big to fit comfortably in my pocket.
