In the 1970s, diesel fuel was cheaper than regular gas. Not the case now. This is for a school project. Thanks.

A couple of things have happened. Number one is look at the taxes on diesel and the taxes on gasoline. In most states the taxes on diesel are much higher and in the case of my state pretty much explains 100% of the difference in price.

The other thing is the new formulation for I believe low sulfur diesel. I'm not sure what thats all about but you can bet it increased the cost of diesel.

Diesel fuel should be less expensive than gasoline as it is much cheaper to refine. So when it cost as much or more than gas you can thank your all mighty government.

i myself think its what they call supply and demand . over the years the demand for diesel has risen because theres more vehicles that use it now then 30 yrs ago, although it is cheaper to refine then gas oil companies see the need for it rising so because of something they call free enteerprise they can charge inflated prices for it to their complete advantage. Us as the buying public dont have much of a choice but to pay the price for it. once again to their advantage. these are just my opinions i think im on the right track though. sorry i couldnt be more specific. hopes it helps
