I'm thinking of taking lessons.
I'd like to get a portable keyboard with certain sounds such as.. a Hammond organ, a good piano sound, (upright, baby grand or grand piano sound) among others, but those two are the most important.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would start at Best Buy. I've seen them there and they have some really good quality ones. You should also try your local music shops, they sometimes have really good deals from time to time, especially before school starts, and during the summer months. Look in your local phone book or online for those places. Good luck and have fun!

Many brands and models and price ranges are available. My suggestion is to get something with a piano feel. Full-size, weighted action that feels solid and heavy like a real piano is best. Why? Because if you practice on a feather-weight or semi-weighted keyboard and then you go to someone's house with a real piano, suddenly it's a whole new ballgame. They'll say, 'hey play something' and you'll sit down and nothing will work right.
