If you're using a phone line for your connection then put your phone number on the bt total broadband site to see what speeds may be achievable as this tends to differ from postcode speeds. I found this with mine, the postcode speed said up to 6MB but when I entered my phone number it said 2MB. I then tried another type of router which said I could get 6MB when phone number was entered, however, when I went into the routers and checked the downstream both routers said the same, over 7MB, this is nothing like the speeds I am getting with on-line speed tests where my best result is 2.7MB. Unsure what router or modem you are using but would suggest staying away from the new BT home hub as appears to be a load of crap and I'm not alone in thinking this. At the end of the day you won't get more than your line will support but you could check that your line, filters, and ethernet cable (fastest connection) are in good condition.

domicile Wifi routers are certainly 3 instruments in one.....a router, a community swap, and a on the spot get admission to factor(WAP). The router separates your community from the ISP community, the swap helps using assorted instruments on your community, and the get admission to factor can grant the on the spot sign. As others have mentioned the relationship kind would not influence the on the spot sign, purely your bandwidth/speed to the exterior worldwide. diverse WAPs delivers greater efficient sign or you may attempt a firmware like DD-WRT,which between different issues facilitates you to alter the on the spot transmission sign thereby boosting the selection.

Download and use the DMT tool - only if your dsl router can support it. Here you can change the gain settings on your line and improve your speed etc to get the most!

Do so at your own risk & have your router backed up first.

The only way you may get an improvement is to locate the router as close as possible to the input point for your phone line, if you use an extension keep it as short as possible. Good Luck.

Routers work best when plugged into your master phone socket, try and avoid having too many walls, pieces of furniture etc. between the router and Laptop/PC, and avoid having cordless phones and other radio frequency items nearby.

if you mean the supply, then phone your supplier, they might be able to help.
The further you are from the exchange the less bandwidth you will get. They will normally be piping you the most they can already.
