Go to start then run

type in cmd

in the black box type "ïpconfig" you shoudl get a list of numbers look for

"default gateway" and record the number beside it

now close th box

go to start then run and type in http://followed y the number noted down

THis will take you to the router website - if you havent accessed this before it is likely the password will be blank /admin - just have a try with standard passwords

Once in go to encryption the choose encryption and follow instructions of amount of characters needed

use letters a-f and number 1-9 - note this down this is the network key

Then go to save save the changes and exit - your router should be secure.

You will need to go into your wireless connection box and press connect then type in the network key so you can access it yourself.

I do not work with Belkin routers, but usually there is an administrative portion of the firmware that you get with a router that will alllow you to change the user ID and password to access it. Log in with the password that you have. If someone changed it, reset the router to factory defaults. Then change the password. If this is wireless, you should set it to restrict users based n their MAC address. Also use WEP/WPA encryption. That should do the trick. Good Luck...

I'm going to assume that you are referring to people "leeching" your wireless internet connection. In that case, there is an excellent article describing step by step how to enable the security features on your wireless router to prevent that from happening;

http://www.goitexpert.com/en/index.cfm/2007/2/9/Configure-Your-Wireless-Router-to-use-WPA

The article has screenshots, the menus will be different depending on your router, but the concepts and names are the same.

Also, under the General tab you will see a section where you can change the default password of your router. Change it. Give it a new password since that will prevent people from accessing you rrouter and changing the settings.

For starters, when someone connects to your wireless connection, its not considered hacking. Anyways to protect your wireless connection, first you need find your default gateway address. Press Start > Run > and type cmd.. press enter.. and type ipconfig..

when you get the dafaut gateway address, type that in your browser.. more than likely you will be prompted for a user name and password. This defaulted most times at Admin for username and Admin for password..all lower case. if that doesnt work then try Administrator for username and then [blank password] .. when you eventually get in, look for wireless and then you can get the option of securing the wireless network using either WEP or WPA etc. Make sure you remember your encryption or you would lock yourself out.
