Hi there, this is a good site to visit:
http://www.hoflin.com/BR/Bichon%20Frise

It contains reviews of Bichon Frise by actual owners of the breed. Mostly positive as even the negative aspects seem to be forgiven ... except possibly the rather poignant bad point expressed by someone who lives in Maine:

"The only bad thing about a Bichon is I will never get over it when this dog gows old and dies. They act so much like a child, it's hard not to love them like a child. As much as I love my big wolfie dogs, it's a whole different kind of love when you meet the Bichon of your dreams ... you'll laugh with them all day long ... you'll teach them silly tricks..."

Here's a site about the primary health problems in Bichon Frises:
http://www.bichon.org/health.htm

Here's another site:
http://www.digitaldog.com/dog_breed/Bichon+Frise

I couldn't see anything about bad eyesight - though cataracts were mentioned. But I think that cataracts can affect many old dogs - so it may not be a breed specific thing ... why not try searching in a search engine for cataracts or eye problems in Bichon Frise?

Hope these links help.

i've got not got a bichon frise, yet I even have learn them and my chum has instructed me approximately them. Bichon Frises are fairly severe-high quality, calm and cozy, and are basic to coach, yet grooming is needed. The costs are the ideal comparable as a different domestic dog : fee of domestic dog, nutrition, kit, toys, vaccinations, sickness and so on. it might fee approximately 500 each year if there isn't any sickness, or if there are, approximately seven-hundred+. Potty coaching could be basic to coach, as long as you do it on a daily basis. they're clever canines, they only want encouragement. If, although, the domestic dog is a technique or the different naughty, (all canines are different!) that's fairly helpful to flow to a domestic dog college. additionally while you're on a holiday, you will possibly would desire to flow to a kennel or a place which they look after canines, and can fee approximately 20-50 a evening, till you have a pal or relatives. good luck!

I can't stand this breed of dog. It looks too much like a rat and all the ones I have known bark 24/7. As for eyesight - I have noticed that they seem more prone to eye infections than other dogs.

Eye sight is generally pretty good. I personally don't care for the breed because they tend to be hyper and high-strung, but physically, there are not usually problems.

i have one. She is great! they are loyal. hyper when young very laid back as they get older. um must train them! also, as for eyesight, she sees very well, i mean unless you let the hair get in her face! then she bumps into stuff (haha that happened to my dog once)...what else..oh yes very PROTECTIVE. my dog will bite anyone that is trying to hit me! so know that from the get-go..if they know you are their owner dont play pushy pushy with anyone else around the dog, because it WILL bite the person you are playing with..they look like they dont bite, but trust me they can!

they are hard to house break very protective, head strong, and prone to ear problems. the house breaking is a real problem, they are one of the toughest breeds to train, but they sure are cute!
