It makes kind of an orangish-green. It does not make a new color.

"Brown" is not the only answer to this. "Orange-Green" (or Green-Orange) is the other possibility.

This all falls under Color Theory... and there is "theory" (ROY G BIV, light prisms and whatnot) and practical application (which is where the mixing of pigments "Color Theory" falls into).

The reason the colors can become Brown upon mixing depends whether or not the secondary colors (in this case both Orange and Green) are "warm" or "cool". Green is typically catagorized as a "cool" color, yet there are different shades of Green, which unto themselves can be considered "warm" or "cool" (so there can be a "warm" Green, which is still "cooler" than Orange).

If these "temperatures" are not taken into account when mixing the result WILL be Brown. If you take care to mix and match specifically you can get a brilliant and beautiful Orange-Green (or Green-Orange).

If you go look into any begining painting studio class you'll see two colors dominate when colors are mixed beyond the paint tube. Brown and Gray. Those are the colors that result from over-mixing and uninformed mixing (Grays happening when white or black pigment are added to the mixture).

orange and green are both secondary colors. they are each the result of two primary colors being mixed. they will only make a muddy brown color together.

orange and green makes a very scruffy looking brown.. and if you can find equal density orange and green it would make a muddy black yetchy looking color.. good for shadows and shade though if you are oil painting..
