for my college education, i was thinking of first going to a university (i dont want to go to a community) that i want to go to, not for the prestige or programs for my major (well i have a few in mind, which are all science related but im not exactly sure yet). ill do that for 2 years and then once i declare a major, eaither i stay there if they have classes for my major or i transfer to another school (a bit more prestigous) for my major to get my bachelors. is this a good idea or is it too complicated?

i would love to go to a top ranked university straight off, but unfortunately im not doing well enough in high school to go straight in (3.8 gpa average, with honors classes)

what do you suggest?

thank you!! :)

im very excited for college!

well i would think my gpa is out of a 4 but say one of my friends has like a 4.6 becuase she gets straight A's with honors and AP classes which each give her the extra points. so since it can go over a 4.0 then that means it is out of 5?? im not sure

A 3.8 gpa with honors courses should make you competitive to get into a "prestigious school," provided you also have good sat scores, recommendation letters and essay. Even if you do not get into an Ivy League you still can get into a great school. I do not know why you would go through all of that work.

If that 3.8 is out of 4, then as long as you do somewhat decently on your SAT and/or ACT then you should be able to get into a very nice university right off the bat. If it's out of a 5, then your plan is not complicated, it happens all the time, just realize that you can't fall to the pressures of your first two years of college; being on your own for the first time, the partying, maybe having to work for living, etc... and you just have to concentrate on your studies because to be able to pull off your plan you will need to do very well.

Pick a school and go with it. There are plenty of good schools w/ your gpa. College is much faster than High School. Do not expect to do better than you did in H.S. Good luck!
