It's a possiblity. San Diego will probably put a 1st round tender on him, though. I've heard the Jets are very interested in Thomas Jones who may be available because the Bears want to give Benson the ball more and could want to get rid of his salary.
In terms of the draft, if they were to after a running back, I would say Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Antonio Pittman or Michael Bush would be nice selections. If they get a back through free agency or trade, they might look at CB Damien Hughes, LB Paul Pozluzney or LaMarr Woodley who could play both DE and LB in the 3-4.

I'm also a huge Jets fan and I have to say I don't think they need a RB. They have a young Leon Washington and did you see how good Cedric Houston was doing at the end of the season and he is young too. The only reason we never heard from Houston before was because he has had injuries. I think they should go for a TE. They could have done it a few years ago when they were planning on getting Heath Miller but instead traded to get Doug Jolley which was a bust so they will have to do it now. I think they should try to get Miami Florida's Greg Olson. He is a large target being 6'5" and is also good for blocking to help there line being 6'5" and 252 pounds. I don't know if it is too much of a reach in the first round to get Olson but I think they really need to fill that role instead of keeping Baker there. Baker is good but does not get that many catches besides when the Jets are in the red zone and he gets a lot of touchdowns.

For the guy who said they won't franchise a back up, have you heard of Matt Schaub? They will franchise him because they know that if they do, they will get a nice draft pick and if they don't they have fantastic security behind LT.
The Jets should forget about Turner because there are some nice options at RB in the draft. The Patriots got Maroney and the Colts got Addai late in the first round last year and I think the Jets could find a similar type in the late first round this year. My guess would be someone like Kenny Irons from Auburn or they could wait till the second or third round where they could pick up any number of RB's who could have an impact such as Garret Wolfe from Northern Illinois, Antonio Pittman from OSU, Darius Walker from Notre Dame, but my pick, and remember his name because he will be good, is Tony Hunt from Penn State. He will be a great player some day.

uh..followthefisher -- you don't really know how AJ Smith works. He would sooner ditch Turner and invest in young(er) talent in the draft than actually franchise Turner (and pay him $6.99mil!) . Plus we've got to try and retain Kris Dielman and Shaun Phillips before Turner

Michael Turner is a free agent, and will end up somewhere. they won't franchise a back up, and his starter days are upon him.
hard to say who the Jets will go with this early. they have the 24th pick, so its too hard to say who will go 1-23.

I say they should go for him because he can plsay good and if he stays with the chargers he is just wasting his career.
They should pick up an OLB to help out johnathan vilma.
