We have stupid laws because sometimes we elect stupid or nosy people. There's a person in the California legislature that is trying to pass a bill to prohibit spanking. What a joke.

On the other hand, your personal judgment that a law in stupid doesn't make it a bad law or something to be disobeyed. Some people consider seat belt laws stupid or an invasion of privacy. I consider them beneficial and driving is a privilege, not a right. You can disobey the law and you can pay the appropriate fine.

It all depends on the context of the law.

If you think a law is "stupid" you may not understand why a law was written. Some laws were written back when technology and values were different, and may require change. Other laws are actually more beneficial unchanged and require changes in the people themselves. Is there a certain law you find unappealing?

If you don't like a law, you need to appeal to the Guys In Charge about why you feel the law needs to be changed. Needlessly breaking the law just because you think it's stupid is juvenile and no one will be on your side if you do it.

Most of the laws were made before we were born and have been around and worked for years. If they aren't broke they won't fix them.
(you know I'm kidding right?...the law is bigger than all of us, don't really break them!)
