I don't think so. He was an explorer, and given his era and his goals, the diseases that he brought to the New World, for instance, were nothing he could have known about. He was devout, and his goals were worthy. We none of us can ever know all the harm we do in our simple everyday actions and relationships. Does that make us guilty of crimes against humanity? You get on an airplane, or a cargo comes from abroad, and someone on the plane is carrying a new and lethal germ, or a particularly destructive insect crawls out of the cargo
hold. Does that make the plane passenger or the cargo company guilty of crimes against humanity.
The ship which sailed into an Italian harbor full of plague ridden sailors, dead and dying, were they guilty of crimes against humanity?
There has to be a certain intent and knowledge that what one is doing is against the laws of God and man, I think, for there to be crimes against humanity? We keep going back to Hitler, because he is nearest us in Western history. And crimes against humanity go on every day somewhere in the world now.
But Christopher Columbus was trying to something he thought good. And the migrations of people, the reaching out and exploring and exploiting of new resources and new lands goes back to the beginnnings of known history. In my estimation he was not guilty of crimes against humanity and he remains, in my book anyway, a hero.

No one started any process agains him, but ther truth is that he did start an age when amerian natives were muredered in some places and millions of africans were moved from their homelands and forced to work, and he wouldn't probably think this was wrong, as evry one else at his time wouldn't.
