High blood pressure can occur in children or adults, but it's more common among people over age 35. It's particularly prevalent in African Americans, middle-aged and elderly people, obese people, heavy drinkers and women taking birth control pills. It may run in families, but many people with a strong family history of high blood pressure never have it. People with diabetes mellitus, gout or kidney disease are more likely to have high blood pressure, too.

There are many things that can affect blood pressure, some positive, some negative.
Weight is one of the most significant factors in high blood pressure and affects it adversely. Excercise can raise blood pressure, though is a positive factor in avoiding problems of the heart and associated high blood pressure. If you already suffer from high blood pressure most doctors advise you to avoid salt in your food.
A few things reduce blood pressure, such as the essential oil of Jasmine, which does show a remarkable ability to lower raised blood pressure.
I've treated your question seriously, as you requested and hope that, if you are worried, you will contact your doctor to obtain medical advice. Treating yourself can work, but even experienced holistic health practicioners choose to go to their doctor for 'the facts'
Good luck,

Stress, it makes you agitated which increases your heart-beat
rate and blood pressure. Heated arguments are the most dangerous form of high blood pressure, which in severe cases
have caused death from stroke associated with high blood
pressure.

Smoking - causes plaque to build inside the blood vessels, increasing blood pressure.
High-fat diet - same reason as smoking.
There, short reasons!

Stress... the more stressed you are the faster your heart will be pumping thus making your b/p possibly soar.
Also if you are a smoker and just smoked a cigarette or a coffee drinker. Both are stimulants and do quite the job of raising the blood pressure.
