I started taking my temperature upon arising each morning to see if that would help. My temperature is 97.2. Is that normal? It does not really go up at all. The highest temperature was 97.9. How do I know when I should be ovulating?

You will probably need to chart for a month or two before you really see the pattern of your cycle. Everyone is different. Try to take your temp every morning at the same time before you speak or move too much. It can impact the temperature. What I did was get a clipboard with my charting paper on it. I attached a ziplock bag which holds my digital thermometer, thermometer covers and pencil. Before I go to bed, I get the thermometer prepared and sitting on top of the clipboard. That made it easier for me, but everyone has to find what works for them.

The following link is a great resource for what to look at on your chart to identify ovulation and details of how to chart successfully:

Good luck!

You have to chart for more than a month to really get a sense of your cycle's pattern. Body temperature isn't the same for everyone. A spike of .5 - 1.5 degrees usually indicates ovulation, and some women will experience a drop right before ovulating. But without a little more information, I can't say when you are (or aren't) ovulating.

Make sure you take your temp BEFORE getting out of bed! You need to take it at the same time every day as well.

Go to fertilityfriend.com and print a chart. You plot your temps on the chart to see when the shift occurs. The shift may only be .2 or .4 degrees up.

The charting of your temps will not tell you before you ovulate. It only tells you after you ovulate. The temp goes up the day after ovulation. You chart to figure out your cycles and plan intercourse closer to ovulation. You are trying to establish your own personal pattern so you can plan ahead.
