He's in the Marines and not sure what he wants to do as to re-enlisting and has a not so good friend trying to convince him to change his mind about going to college instead and making somthing of his life and the not so good friend isnt going to college and has not plans for his life but to be a bum what do i do to get him to understand that he needs to go to college and make something of his life! thanks for your help

You can't do anything. This is his decision. Quit pushing it, you're not his father.

Thats a really tough question, i think that to earn your best friend/sons trust back, you need to form a REALLY close relationship with him. You need to go on a vacation with him or just go to a lot of fun places with him. go to some big football/basketball game w/ him but make it a road trip, so u can get a REALLY close relationship w/him. After its through you can start easing into the conversation of college. He'll trust your opinion much more.

Trying to push him isn't the answer that's for sure. I'd try to lay out a list of options that will come from what ever chose he makes. Show the pros, and cons to what ever his decision might be. no body wants to be told what to do( ask your self what motivates you to do things that others thought was good for you, but you didn't. I didn't see in this where he lied to you, so i hope I help you.
