Hahaha only a fool would agree to that.
If you would willingly give up your freedom to speak freely, you just need help basically.

"If speaking out against the government (whether it is dems or reps) makes us weaker as a nation and emboldens the terrorists, would you give up voicing your opinion about politics, for the sake of appearing to be united?"
But, uh...we're not united. (in our views)
Wouldn't it be better to show the world that we can have diverse views and still care about one another and our country?

Dang, you almost had me!!
I was about to answer (with an unconditional YES) your question about giving up these silly boards for true national sevurity.
Then I get to the part where you just want people to quit expresing their dissent to give the ILLUSION of national security, which is basically what Bush and his minions have been doing for five years.
You can't take a bottle of water on the plane, but none of the cargo entering our ports is examined at all.
THAT is called "appearing to be united", and it iisn't helping us in any real way at all. It's just distracting the fearful from their fear in hopes they'll go on being good little consumers.

The whole point of being an American is to be able to voice your opinion (good or bad). It's called freedom of speech and without that you don't have an America. The terrorists would be cheering in the streets if they heard that because of them one of the greatest American freedoms was banned. The more Bush restricts US freedoms in the name of US security to more the terrorists will be winning the war.

I would think its a little late for that. And I think the world marvels at our freedom to speak freely. It is a freedom many of them do not have.
What better way to push the ideals of democracy?

no i will not give up freedom of speech for anything.
i fail to see how we can be perceived as spreading freedom if we don't have it here.
i would also politely suggest that those of you in the republic party who want to try experiments in democracy to please do it somewhere other than the usa.
we have a thing here called the constitution, and i believe in it more than i do the criminals in washington...

OK. But as long as people form their opinions based on what they hear at the local coffee shop, we will never be united.
