I live in LA area. Is it even wroth worrying about because it does not rain as much as it does in Seattle. Is it worth thinking about a ram air intake although i am told they dont do much. I will get a cold air intake but should i be worried about sucking up water in the LA area. Also how can i protect it from the rain when it rains or can i not and i have to hope for the best.

Thanks

I have used cold air intakes on my vehicles for the past 10 years. I have driven on and off road, through water and heavy rain. I have yet to pick up any water through the intake. Just remember a couple of basic premises. Mount the intake as high inside the engine compartment as possible. Shield the intake from any water that can be sprayed up from under the vehicle, as through inner fender panels, etc.
I have used cold air intakes on the following vehicles:
1998 Jeep Wrangler
2000 Jeep Cherokee
2002 Jeep Liberty
2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder
2002 Ford Ranger
2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
2004 Ford F350 Diesel
2004 Mercedes CLK230
2006 Mercedes SLK350

I had ram air and cold air intake on my 1972 gran torino (in LA) and it worked great. I also had an aftermarket ignition system including distributor wires and plugs all better than specs.

Theres a very low chance of that happening but if youre really worried and wanna be safe get a bypass filter for like extra 50$

Its manufacturer's problem not yours, and that is why they put air cleaner.
For you information i read about an experiment in which patrol and water was mixed at high presser and used for driving and you know what was the result the performance was better than driving only on patrol because water has more combustion than patrol. but i will not recommend you. Just enjoy more than enough HP of the RAM.
