I don't see a big difference between either party these days. While more Republicans are apt to be against abortion, there are Democrats - like Senate Majority Leader Harry Ried - who are also against abortion. When speaking to the converted or members of their party they might take a stand. But when an appeal is made to moderate voters, where elections are won, they will straddle the fence and talk about the wonderful ideological diversity of their respective party.
A few of the names mentioned as front runners for the next election from the Republicans are actually pro-choice. Either way, their best bet is to run a moderate.

I thought your question might be interesting, but instead of talking about the expanded welfare state that Bush and the GOP gave us, you took a wrong turn.
As for abortion, it's not that we are intruding into the womb, we just don't want any butcher to intrude in there. We are aghast at the 30,000,000+ babies that have been butchered in the womb in the past 40 years, and are disgusted by the Constitutional abomination that Roe v. Wade is.
Regarding homosexuals, we don't care what they do in the privacy of their own homes, but we don't see any imperitive necessity to radically change the meaning of marriage for them. There is no societal necessity driving this.
And the truth is that by maintaining the laws as they've been for millenia, that means we're NOT going into the bedrooms of homosexuals. That's an illogical argument on your part.
I'm also wondering where this sense of outrage over supposed privacy violations is when it comes to income taxes and the fact that the government has access to all your personal financial information. That is perhaps the grossest violation of privacy out there, yet I hear nary a peep from people like you. Why the silence?

It was actually the Democratic party who extended government into the womb with Roe vs. Wade. The Supreme court was filled with liberal judges that were put into that position by dems.
It those same judges who would circumvent the will of the people by allowing gay marriages to occur by striking down a state law that was passed by the majority.
Attention Liberals: If you want to get a law passed, go through the process of debate that happens in Congress. Don't cheat the American people by putting liberal judges on a court.
