Every persons perspective of danger is different, so some people might help while others stand back. I used to work as a female bouncer for many years and have seen some vile things in my time. Most people tend to stand back maybe through self preservation or purely because they're scared. I would've (and have done) helped in the past, I'm very confident, been in a few hairy situations and I can look after myself in a crisis. These days however I can't give you a straight answer, I suppose it depends what sort of situation it would be. Also the fact that I have a family now plays a big part.

If I had the kids then I'd do the best I could without putting them in the firing line-be that making a 999 call or just shouting/screaming to draw attention to the attack.
On my own I don't think I'd be able to help myself but get more involved than might be sensible for my own safety.
I would suppose that you act instinctively, having not been in that situation I can't say for sure.

Suppose there are two people on the street who are trying to divert your attention from the real crime which is going on behind you. Would you get involved in a stage managed scene, where you will only become an accomplice to the crime?
I have been in situations where one person became verbally aggressive for no apparent reason to a stranger in the street. This blew up into a fight, which was quickly resolved when it became two against one (i.e. when I stepped in). However, my jacket got ripped and was covered in blood.
I'm pretty sure that a one on one fight would go on longer than a two on one fight. The simple reason is that if it was a lunatic one picking a fight with two people, one has to question his motive as he would most likely lose. He backed away when two people hit him. How would that have looked to the police?
I can tell you that the police advised us not to press charges against this one chap who instigated the fight when they took us to hospital to get stitched up.

Not a good idea JazminX - you would have the knife stuck in you as well and most likely die.
Best way to help is to dial 999 and tell them that it's a stabbing and it's in progress. Armed cops will be there pronto. Meanwhile, you stay safe.

hell yes, I would give the person a beat down. I have been in that situation before. Got mugged by a black guy at knife point. Gave him my wallet as three other black guys watched the whole thing. They didn't do a damn thing. Probably think I earned it.

Yes, I would. I have called 911 on people, and waited until they got there. It's important to have those citzens who tell for the right reasons.

I would've kicked some criminal butt! People who just stand by and call 911, or do nothing may as well join in and kick 'em while they're down. I cannot believe peoples heartlessness!!!
