My husband and I each have a mild sore throat, and our 5 week old daughter is coughing and spitting up LOTS more than usual. She didn't sleep at all last night, but still seems strong. She was to the doctor for her 1 month checkup on Friday, and she was fine, but then she started acting different Sunday morning. I'm running the humidifier, elevated the head of her bassinet, and have her resting sitting up in the Boppy, and she's not spitting up so much, but I don't know if I ought to call her doctor. Her grandparents aren't sure either.

To those who asked, I did check for fever, and she doesn't have one(97.8 axillary), and asthma doesn't run in either of our families, thank goodness, so it's unlikely she has it, as the condition's inherited.

She could have reflux, which would give her a sore throat, and would account for her spitting up. Try to keep her more upright for 15 minutes after a feeding and keep her as relaxed as possible during that time. That helps her milk pass fromt he stomache to her intenstines, where it is safe from reflux. The symptoms will pass on their own by 4 months. If she has no fever (rectal 100.3), then she is fine.

If she isnt running a fever and her coughing isnt affecting her breathing then she should be fine. Everything you did is what I had to do for my son who has reflux and that can also cause coughing. Reflux usually heals itself between 9 and 12 months of age. But keep an eye on her because my son is 5 months old and between the ages of 5 weeks and 16 weeks had aready had 3 upper respiratory infections thats when we found out he has asthma.

She may have picked up a little virus. You're doing everything right so far though!

Keep an eye on her, and if she's not sleeping or feeding well, she should see her doctor again.

Most babies under 2 years old don't get strep though - if they do, they're REALLY sick little cookies.

As long as she doesn't have a fever, I think what you are doing is fine. Just watch the temperature. If she has diarrea or fever, or isn't eating as usual, take her to the doctor.
