Ferrite is also the stuff used to make most cheap magnets. It is made with Ferric Oxide. Now from your Chemistry you might remember that the “ic” suffix relates to the highest common oxidation state. In this case Iron likes the +2 and +3 oxidation states. So your ferrite is Fe2O3 or Iron (III) oxide.

If it was the other oxidation state of Iron they would call it ferrous oxide. What is the molecular formal for that?
