try pickle juice. Seriously. Drink about 1 cup of it. It works for some people. It's also good for nausea.

I used to have horrid migraines, sometimes as many as 8 times a month. The doctors didn't have any solutions. But then I found a naturalpath doctor.
She did an assessment and put me on a special diet to help determine the triggers. And what do you know, we discovered I had a sensitivity to dairy. Whenever I have dairy, bang like clockwork I get a migraine 4 days later.
I couldn't figure out food related issues previously because I only looked at what I ate that day, I didn't know food can have an effect for up to 4-5 days later.
Now I have less then 3 migraines a year, a big improvement I can live with.
So I would recommend seeing a naturalpath doctor and I am sure he/she would be of immense help to you.
Incidentally I found a great treatment for migraines as well. When you first notice the trigger, try taking an Excederin for Migraines tablet. Also rub some tiger balm on your forehead/ hairline/ temples/ and at the back of your neck.
I find with that combination my migraines would be gone in about a half hour and never got worse. - Provided I did it at the initial trigger.
Hope that helps!

There is not a pill or something everyone with migraines can do for them to leave.
There are individual things that can be done. I have them after a head injury. I was having them all the time everyday. These are painful!! I started taking things out of my diet. Milk, cheese, coffee, I did test on a lot of things I was taking. After all the food I went to medications.
Finally my ADHD medication was next. Wham they stopped everyday like they were. I get them now a couple times a month, this I am told by doctors is because of my injury.
Try doing what I did and look at what you are eating, then what you are drinking, then medications. Look at what you were doing even if you were stressing about something before the migrain started. Soon you will see you triggers and try to stay away from them.
Good luck hope you feel better soon!

No cure, but you can reduce the frequency, duration and severity of your migraines by following a few guidelines:
!) Don't smoke
2) Wear sunglasses when in bright light
3) Never let yourself get super hungry. keeping the blood sugar steady helps. This also includes abstaining from too much sugar at one time which spikes your blood glucose levels.
4) Do not drink alcohol (at all if possible)
5) get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every night. (10 is ideal)
6) Stay away from processed meats like hot dogs, sausages, pepperoni etc. the nitrites can trigger a huge migraine for a lot of people.
7) This one is a strange one: caffiene. This works for some and worsens it for others. Because the effects of caffiene are different in different people, so experiment with a little tea or one cup of coffee a day. It may help you, but it actually causes the onset of a migraine for some. The best way to see if it works for you or not is to wait and when one is starting drink a cup of coffee, if the headache eases, then you're helped with caffiene, but if not, stay away from it.

YES.
But it does take dedication to your health to determine what is CAUSING them.
They are different for everyone. I had my first migraine in college and it was caused by not getting enough sleep, not eating right, partying, and Dr. Pepper...interestingly...the ones I've had in the past year, go away once I drink a Dr. Pepper... lol.... These headaches..some lasting for 3 days were hormone related and I am now on hormone injections...so NO MIGRAINES since I figured out what was causing it...
1. Rarely will a doc help you figure out the cause...he will just give you pills and push you out the door. If he cures you, he doesn't make any money. :)
2. Naturopathic docs do try to FIX the problem rather than just giving you meds. Also, their treatments tend to be better because herbal stuff is gentle on the liver. Synthetic meds destroy it. I have a sister-in-law who has bad migranes and hasn't reached rock bottom with her headaches to figure out what is causing them...but her liver is messed up because she's taken so much tylenol for the headaches...so now she is trying to take care of her liver.
Good luck...I hope your headaches go away. :)

As crazy as this does sound migraines can be triggered by what you eat! My chiropractor helped me figure that out. He mentioned some of the foods I ate a-lot of like bananas, tomatoes, bacon and other things I was eating helped to trigger them. He has me write down things I ate for 2 weeks as I am a picky eater and I had to change my eating habits and I get less migraines and in-fact I haven't had 1 in months like 6 months when I used to get at-least 1 per week. Just something that worked for me. Good Luck!

there are prescription medications to treat the problem but not a cure in so much as this problem can come back again sometime.
overall a person with a migrain should treat this in a manner somewhat similar to the way high blood presure is treated.
that is slow down rest calm down and then add to it ice and the medications .
later treat the cause of the problem .
many of the asthma inhalers such as ventolin can cause migranes this happens if the dose is high then drops off the next day . i have had that happen and i was told its common.
the medication i was given did help

as you can tell from most of the answers, no one treatment works for everyone... Here's the one I like:
I rub a dab of lavender oil on my temples and forehead.. also a tiny bit under my nose. I run a bath as hot as I can stand it and add another tablespoon or so of the lavender oil to the bathwater and close the shower curtain...
I turn off all the lights leaving maybe one candle burning as my eyes get very VERY sensative to light with migraines. and get in the tub with the curtain shut (this holds in the lavender steam. I use a rolled up towel behind my neck and just sit and breath.... if the migraine is accompanied with a little nausia I'll take maybe a half hour nap after the bath... usually this gets rid of the headache for me.

Yes, sometimes.
1) Dental treatment
2) Allergy treatment
3) Candida treatment, might be appropriate if the person has bad breath....
4) Dealing with some neurological problem, as yet undiagnosed.
5) Cutting down on stress.
6) Niacin, but the side-affects are a short-term heat flush, and it might harm the liver if taken in large amounts. Suggested amount 100 mg

Taking a supplement of Magnesium (Nature's Way brand) works well for me. Taken regularly, it is very helpful. If you take too much, your bowels will become loose, but will normalize quickly when you cut back on the amount. Homeopathic combination formulas for Migraine are very helpful also -
