I'm on probation for a year of minor charges and I was planning on going to europe for a week. If I do not tell my officer, which I don't even have yet, will they know I left? Do they check at customs to see if someone is on probation?

Go for it. The worst thing that can happen is that you get thrown in jail - or the country will not accept you into it (which they WILL do to some people).

Contact the court ASAP and find out who has been assigned to your case and talk to your PO...If in fact you were originally charged with minor charges he may allow you to leave the country.... I would not recommend you leaving without telling him first as you would then be violating your probation and if your PO finds out he can take you before the Judge... Probation will then be revoked!

Your minor charges will be transformed magically into felonies! You should have planned your trip for AFTER YOU WERE OFF OF PROBATION. Seek legal advice before you do anything!
Customs is tough to get through when you are NOT a criminal. Even tougher when you are.

Not yet as far as I know . I still have my passport and did leave for a few days and not report that to my probation officer .

They are clamping down so much now that I think you are taking quite a chance of not getting caught. They may think you are leaving because of your charges. Contact the lawyer that handle the case if the first place and ask if it is okay to go.

well, it IS illegal to leave the country without telling your po. if he found out you´d get locked up, they won´t let you out. but, if he´s cool he might give you permission. are you on probation for killing a cop or something like that? then just ask. if he says no, i wouldn´t risk it. but good luck. if you stop by amsterdam, i will be proud, my son.

there is always a chance,he or she will find out,if that happens you could be revoked,than you will do the time,been there done that,tread easy,and good luck
