After finishing Eragon, I actually liked it and read the second book too. I'm also a fan of the Artemis Fowl books. I'm trying to expand my reading, and would like any suggestions of books that are the same genre. I've been reading a lot lately so any suggestions are much appreciated.

I loved Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. There are quite a few of them. It's a group that crashlands on a planet where they have to start over - food, shelter, technology...

Some of them impress dragons, and together they fight thread, something that falls from the sky and destroys whatever it touches when it hits the ground.

These came out long ago, but I very much enjoyed them.

Katherine Kurtz has a fantasy series about the Deryni, a race of people that can do magic. They have to struggle to regain control and destroy the bad guys.

Piers Anthony is also a fantasy writer. He has a series about the land of Xanth. They're full of puns. Xanth is a land that looks like Florida, but peopled with many odd and magical creatures.

I would assume you've read Harry Potter. They're actually REALLY well-written books, if you liked Eragon, you probably would like them.

Also, consider some of the classics, like Lord of the Rings. Most of the authors of that genre have roots in books like Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Other books I've really enjoyed:

To Kill a Mockingbird
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
Son of a Witch (it's a sequel to Wicked)
Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-glass
My Sister's Keeper (girls will probably like it better than boys, but the main points of it speaks to both sexes, and it's told from the point of view of several characters of both genders and all ages)
The Left Behind series
The Outsiders

Of course there's the Lord of The Rings and that series, but you've probably read that already. Harry Potter might be good. Try books by
Jonathan Stroud, such as The Amulet of Samarkand. There's always the Series of Unfortunate Events. Or Inkspell by Cornelia Funke.

Eragon is a novel written by Christopher Paolini. It is the first book of the Inheritance Trilogy. The sequel is Eldest, which was released in mid-2005. The third book is rumored to be called Empire but the title has not been confirmed.
Maybe you could read the Triology.
Also Harry Potter Series if you have not already read.

Myrrens Gift by Fiona McIntosh
This is the first book in a triology, havn't read the other two yet but it left me wanting more. Good fantasy with a twist.
Other very good series of fantasy books are by David Eddings, Robin Hobbs and Raymond Feist. All titles by these authors are very good.

Anne McCaffrey Pern series. Eragon totally ripped her off.

I also recommend Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game series.
