Hi,
essentially, Saint Valentine's day started as a European celebration reflecting the heroism Saint valentine showed during his life.
However, I know of several Muslim persons here in Spain, and in the UK, who choose to celebrate their love for another by purchasing cards, going out for a romantic evening or doing things for each other to show how much they love their partner.
Despite the writer who seems to think that Muslims cannot show love to each other (that is certainly a remark that could qualify you for a prosecution under the racial discrimination act...beware!) Most people these days do not care that it started as a religious celebration, but are happy to have a day, just like Mother's day, etc. where they can show their loved one they care.
Some people feel the day is just an excuse for card companies and florists to make money, and this cannot be denied. However, most people are pleased to be given an expression of love however it is manifested. There is no need to supprt Hallmark, or similar...you can make your own card or gift, or do something for your loved one that you don't normally do. It's up to you.
p.s. the original aim was to send a greeting in secret to the love of your choice, without her/him knowing who had sent it (I can see how that loses a certain popularity)
Cheers, and happy Valentine's Day,
BobSpain

V-day is not a religious celebration for any religion. It's a fancy day for lovers to show their affection for each other. It's become a tradition that's all, thus marking it in the calendar.
Anyone all beliefs mixed can celebrate it if that's what they like. But it's a money making day pure and simple.
However, in muslim countries it's not as popular, being a day chosen on the Western calendar (St Valentine), and really not meaning anything for anyone other than Christians.
Lovers have 365 days to show their affection to one another. No need for a special day to remind them how they feel bout them and run and buy things. Every morning of the year is a Vday, every whisper, every conversation, every step taken together is Vday.

I swear, we've some incredibly grotesque haters right here. confident, Muslims relish love and romance, and no, they do no longer look to be all bombers. maximum are regulation abiding voters, very very few in assessment to the finished style of them are those inflicting hardship. the reason that Valentine's Day isn't an part of Islam is provided that's a Christian party, organic and straightforward. Do Christians nonetheless rejoice Passover? could they? Do they nonetheless observe Yom Kippur? Do they observe any of the Jewish holiday trips? could they? No, they do no longer, and no, they do no longer could, and it incredibly is high-quality. Muslims do no longer anticipate Christians to speedy for the time of Ramadan, why could Christians anticipate Muslims to computer screen Valentine's day? Btw, despite if it is formally Islamic or no longer, many in reality do rejoice Valentine's day. i comprehend it is formally a Christian difficulty, yet incredibly, interior the heart, that's a party of romantic love. all and sundry enjoys romantic love!

No, it's in observance of St. Valentine who had a pretty bizarre story anyway. Basically one story has him essentially marrying people in order to be draft dodgers since all non-wed men were recruited for military service.
Another story has him trying to hit on a little girl by passing her love notes.
Either way, he sounds like a pretty sick person, and certainly not worthy of Sainthood, or a holiday..but then again, there were worse "saints"

Its a cathlic established holiday and was established in europe by the catholics to coincide with peagan holidays as a placate for peagan converts, It was commercialized and trivialized (an rightly so) in America, to the point that there is no real meaning, there is no valentinmes day in predominant Islamic countries. but in America, everybody jumps in on the holiday bandwagon - thats the American way (bandwagons that is) so does it matter if a muslim celebrates a catholic holiday? who cares - It is peagan in origin anyway.
