I am curious if there are other ways to go with this. I have had the degree over 10 years and have taught occasionally, but never really felt like this was for me. I now have 3 young children and work part time (just for a paycheck, not because I like it) and am interested in picking up a career again once they are all in school (about 2 years) I like writing (but not sure how good I am) and working on anything creative. I am very bad at art and drawing but like to think of new ideas and stories. I would love to work with PBS and do something with Children's television, either writing or working for the local station in some capacity. Any thoughts?

Thanks to everyone who wrote a helpful answer. I will ignore the unhelpful one.

I liked everyone else's suggestions so far. I am thinking of going to a local writers club, once I have some writing done. I plan on researching PBS as well.

I'll check in later.

Perhaps with the combination of your degree/education and your enjoyment of writing you could get a job writing curriculum.

You could also think about writing some children's stories, you don't have to be the artist as well as author.

There are several parenting magazines out there too that may need a staff writer or may accept outside articles. Contact some of them and see what their policies are.

You may also enjoy teaching in a special class like a creative writing class or an art class since you are creative.

Just some ideas to throw out there.
Good luck :-)

go to the places you want to work at and find out what it takes to get the job you want. It is easier to do something you love, than something you dislike. Just ask PBS how you would be able to work for their organization and tell them of your interest.
