he has twins from a previous relationship. But I can't get pregnant. My ex-boyfriend tried to as well, and I never got pregnant (and he has 3 kids now). So I'm thinking now it's me. I have a very irregular period, I'm 26 y/o and I am a little overweight (5'7" and 200 lbs) can that be one of the reasons? If so, it's weird but even when I wasn't overweight, I still couldn't get pregnant. So I have came w/ the conclusion that I am infertile. My PCP does not want me to get a fertility test, she said just to loose weight. But I feel like I am not fertile, I have now changed doctors. Is infertility common?

Infertility is defined as having unprotected well-timed intercourse for 1 year and not conceiving. Irregular periods means irregular or no ovulation. Without ovulation you certainly can't get pregnant. You need to discuss your irregular cycles with an OB/Gyn at a Pre-conception check-up.

the problem is probably that you are so irregular that you have no idea when to have sex to even get pregnant. i have been irregular all my life also. your being overweight should have nothing to do with it. i have a cousin that is WAY heavier than you and she has two kids. ask your doctor if they can put you on clomid. it's a fertility drug and it will help. however, just to be on the safe side, you might want to try to lose a little weight.

Go get that second opinion. Dropping about 50 pounds would be a good thing since you will gain 25-30 with a child on the way.

Are you monitoring your basal body temperature? This will help you to see if you are in fact ovulating. Fertility friend is a good website. Don't give up..it took me 6 yrs.
