1/2 + x - 1/2 (the numerator) = x

x/x = 1

But say you had (1/2 + x)/x

That would equal (1/2)/x + x/x

Which equals 1/2x +1

Which equals (1 + 2x)/2x

When you get rid of the Parenthesis () you end up with 1/2 + x - 1/2 All over X. When you combine like terms the 1/2 will go away. Your final answer will be X/X = 1.
