In my town the firefighters harrass the people with yard signs of opponents and threaten not to "protect" their property if the sign is not changed to the "correct" candidate.

First of all, there are bad grapes in every bunch.
The few firefighters I have known in my bloodline and among my friends' friends all have had substantial substance abuse issues, and I quite frankly don't think their opinions are worth the bottles and teaspoons they imbibe out of.
But, I will tell you that my dad, who was a cop, was also trained as a firefighter and EMT (only one year of cert), and he is the most upstanding (by that I mean, sober) man I know. And I trust him not as a firefighter but as one of the few genuinely compassionate religious men in creation to never threaten let alone carry out such evil threats.

I know a lot of firefighters, I don't know any that would pull a stunt like this. If what you are saying is true, contact the Board of Elections in your area to investigate. Also, if any threat is made a police report can be filed.
Firemen do have political influence, not because of their braun, but because they are usually Union workers, and they put their lives on the line everytime they report for duty. Most people respect that kind of courage. People admire and respect them for that.
I'm sorry if what you're saying is true. I am very proud of my fire department.

That is bogus pure and simple. If this is really going on, I'd like to know where it is. That isn't legal or ethical and I have a huge problem with even the concept of this. Sounds like a rumor gone wild. I've never met a firefighter who was dumb enough to even ponder doing this and I know a lot of them.

I've been around enough firefighters to know that, while they are generally brave, they are not typically very smart (I guess that is sort of a requirement for someone to run into fire!)
