Well, on average, yeah, you want to feeding your fish almost every day - although fasting them for one day a week does not have any ill effects (in fact, some people do it on purpose to prevent blockage in fish that are more susceptible to it, like goldfish and bettas).
If you left for, say, a long weekend, and couldn't feed your fish for 2-3 days, they'd be fine; but avoid doing this regularly (more than once a month), as it could result in irregular growth patterns.

this can vary fish to fish, but every other day is ok
some fish however may have different dietary requirements, especially rarer ones.
we often overfeed our fish, and pellet/flake foods are very very rich, too much of them and we can make our fish constipated and sick.
most fish (not all, just a lot of) can go a week without food, this shouldn't be done on a regular basis though. but i've left my bettas, endlers and otos for 5 days and had no losses.
so every other day is fine, i think a 3 day gap on a regular basis is a bit too infrequent though.

The best and safest rule of thumb is to feed your fish once a day every day ,at the same time if possible and if you can't try to find a buddy who can help.

i feed my fish every day, but he would not die if yo choose to feed him every three days. i bet he would just be a little hungry, but if you feed them every three days then he is used to that and they will be alright
