I dont use the public library because I need to own books that I read. It's not a material thing, it's because I'm a very active reader and I like to chew up a book and really digest it. I make total mess of my books, nicluding writing notes in the margin, highlighting, underlining, folding pages that I want to earmark for one reason or another (interesting idea or something I want to write about in my journal) etc. If I borrowed a book from a library, they'd make me pay for it when i returned it anyway due to damage, so i might as well just buy it at the bookstore first.

I sell books on-line, so I'm always out buying, and while I do, I come across lots of great books - things I want to read, so I pick them up as well. I currently have my own personal library in almost every room of my house.

I haven't used the public library for some time. When I do, I usually do some research and get a lot of books on the same subject. It hasn't been the most pleasant experience, but that's primarily due to others that are making use of the facility for something other than looking for or reading books. I don't like being followed by an individual with alcohol on his breath.

I do have fond memories of the library when I was a child, especially visiting my school's library during the summer.

For the simple reason that I like the convenience of my own home. I do agree with others in their choice to go to the library for the atmosphere. I find it very relaxing there. I do, however, dislike how inflexible it can be. What if I want to eat or have a drink while I am reading a good book?

Also, the internet has made the purchasing of books so much easier both with price and accesibility. Not to mention, I enjoy the ownership of a book above all else. Maybe if the library sold books as well, at a lower cost than say a Borders I would certainly be more apt to going.

I do go to the library on occasion for the atmosphere, but if all I want is some information, knowledge or literature, why go to the library when I have an infinite library at my fingertips? The internet is making libraries obsolete. It makes no sense to go to a building, pick up a book, sit at a table and be perfectly quiet when you can chill at home, look up what you want to read, make as much noise as you want and not have to worry about your appearance or hygeine. Peace.

I love buying books. I keep all the books I buy because I want to have my own collection. I sometimes even keep school books if I liked the course. Plus its been forever since I used a library i can barely remember how.

The library is great. Not just books -- DVDs, CDs, audiobooks -- all for free. Couldn't live without it. Not everything of value is available on the internet, people. Sometimes you have to get out into the world.

I don't have anything against the library. I just prefer to purchase my books so I can write in them and keep them.

Its the same reason i don't go to blockbuster. I always forget to return them on time and end up paying a fine. I use www.booksfree.com. It's like netflix but for books, so I can keep the books as long as I want and then send them back when I'm ready.
