How do I get birds to come in my yard? I purchased a feeder and hung it out, with no luck. I have wild bird feed. Any suggestions.

First and most important DO NOT feed peanut butter to wild birds. It can oil their breast feathers which they can not clean and can also plug up their crop. It has too much sugar and is not a natural food for wild birds.
It will take time for the word to spread that there is a new bird feeder in the neighborhood.
Be sure the feeder is near shelter ( as is a tree or shrub) the birds will be more likely to visit if they feel safe and can take shelter quickly if they feel threatened.
Also, provide water to drink and bath in.
Be patient - it'll be worth the wait!

This was by total accident- my husband and I cut some shrubbery down one warmer day a few months ago, and left the pile of sticks lay in the yard, to pick up later. Needless to say, winter hit and we never picked up the brush pile. IT TURNED OUT TO BE AN EXCELLENT BIRD RETREAT!! I noticed birds sitting in the brush so I started throwing seed around it, under it, then added various critter foods, the animals all love the little shelter they sit under while the eat- great in winter!! We're doing it again next fall for sure:) Don't forget birds need and love WATER TOO! We got a heated birdbath (wisconsin-burrrrr)

Also remember that there are several groups, Like wild brids, song birds, some are bug/meat eaters, Some are too big for small feeders, like Mourning Dove

Some fussy eaters, Goldfinch likes black thistle seeds

Humming birds need a seperate special feeder, and 1 for each bird

To attract "most" birds, use black oil sunflower seed. Seems like all the birds like that. When you throw out bread for the birds, the crows or squirrels will probably come first and then the other birds will know something is up in your yard, that has always been my theory (and I'm stickin' to it..lol). Suet is a wonderful thing to attract woodpeckers. They line up waiting for their turn.

Change the bird seed, try something different, ask your local pet store what kind of wild birds you have in the area.

Also, give it time - when I hung mine it took a few weeks and now they are everywhere!
