Squirrels can easily be caught in a live trap. Cookies, nuts, bird seed and bread covered with peanut butter is good bait. Any farm store, Rural King or TSC, Lowes carry live traps.
You might ask at a local university or wildlife office. Sometimes they let people borrow traps.

Why do you want to catch it? Leave it alone. Unless it's in your house, then call a licensed trapper. Or, rent a humane trap and put it out. If you catch it, take it out in the country or a park and let it go.

i'd positioned a kind dressed as a deer hunter on your stay seize. No purple squirrell alive can stand up to the temptation to circulate and chatter at a deer hunter. I guess you will seize a minimum of two dozen that way.

You can use any small animal trap with sunflower seeds as the bait, but it is illegal in many states. Why do you want to trap one? It will not make a good pet. If it is for scientific study, you can buy one from a supplier; it is illegal to do research on wild animals.

Our local garden centre sells humane traps for squirrels - gardeners who use them are supposed to take any that they do catch to woodland areas and release them. Some gardeners do just that, but it concerns me that restaurants in Kent have been offering squirrel pies etc., and that some people refer to such animals as "tree rats" or "rats with good PR". Be careful of what you are getting in to.

there are certain traps you can use, but the trick is to use the right bait. it must be dry, like oatmeal, or nuts, and not peanut butter or fruits, which will attract ants, which might if the numbers are great enough, kill the squirrel.

You don't. They are better off in the wild. If you have a problem with one around your house, call animal control.
