Yes if you're a man, no if you're a woman

Married women and single men have poorer health and die earlier than married men (someone to look after them) and single women (nobody to look after)

With increasing gender equality these statistics are not as stark as they once were, but it's interesting that fewer women want to be married now, and more men do.

Statistically people living alone have more mental sickness and general physical ill health than people in stable relationships.

Married couples may be healthier because they're each trying to live long enough to claim the other's life insurance. That's just my theory.

Sorry if that's not the answer you would have liked but them's the facts.

That doesn't necessarily mean that you should now retire to bed with a thermometer, hot water bottle, cup of tea and a good book.

I think it's great for health to live on your own, but it's good to have someone to care for, like a pet...someone to greet you when you get home, someone who's glad to see you can really make your day!

The only circumstances I can think of that would make living alone unhealthy would be if you had a medical situation that you needed someone to check up on you regularly. A person with a medical condition or an older person living alone might benefit from having a service like Life Alert (the "I've fallen and I can't get up!" people) so if anything happened, they could get help.

Well as one who spends best part of her life living on her own I would have to say yes as we are less inclined to take care of ourselves. However, I am learning very fast that this is an unwise thing to do and have really started with a healthy eating regime as I know that my health has suffered from my own stupidity.

So I now eat as much fresh green vegetables as I can and other veg and fruits. But as to whether they are fresh is debatable so I cannot wait until I can grow my own vegetables again this year.

Socialising is important too for health therapy but if you are like me a bit of a recluse it's hard to get out and about

Good health and happiness.

Timmy T and Amsterdam have particularly good answers.

There are statistics which bring up pros and cons of 'married' v 'single,' and ultimately people do tend to benefit from social relationships. A couple of respondents mentioned getting pets. Pets, plants, or simply being involved in the community (with volunteer work or social groups like clubs) are all good options if one is alone; this builds connections and interactivity which stimulate our brains and blood, necessary to maintaining healthy lives.

Ultimately, living alone or with another is what you make it. You can choose to be happy and not fight; you can choose to be unhappy but do things you feel you 'ought' to. This works synergistically with the habits you cultivate (diet, exercise, sleep) to reflect on your overall health. So, Zen and as impractical as it may sound -- you must be healthy and at peace inside to be healthy outside.

That, friend, can be alone or with someone else!

Best wishes finding your own happy, healthy lifestyle.

People in love caring for each other live longer. But it is not bad for your health to live alone.

This is not such an odd question as it seems to some.

Mortality and morbidity figures show that statistically people who live alone do not live as long as couples. Also there is a definite increase in mortality in partners who loose their spouses, interestingly it is more marked in men who loose their female partners.

After living with a pig for 30 years I'd say it is the ultimate in wellbeing and happiness. I love it and would not change it for all the tea in China.

Living alone can be very healthy. However for some it is stressful, because there is no one to talk over problems and no one to create these.

Hope this helps
