Aren't they the same? And why are they still called Records?

You're right. the terminology has not kept up with the times. It is still firmly 50 yrs old.

As for the Dixie chicks getting 5 grammys, that is deplorable. They should have been fairer with the distribution. There had been more deserving American Idol rejects.

Best Record could be a single or a song from an album.

no, "record" is just another word for a song, and best album is the best album all together.

this leads to a more confusing difference........the diff between "best song" and "best record".

and i believe the difference is best song is an award for the best song by opinion, and best record is an award for the "most succesful song", measured by radio success and rankings on the charts (dixie chicks won both of them for the same song)

so best song is exactly that, and best record is more or less the "most succesful song"
