Take him to your doctor and have him swab your babys nose for RSV. This is a very serious virus that unfortunately there is no antibiotics for but it is good that you know for sure.Try to keep him sleeping in a bit of a sitting position,if you have a swing have him sleep in there, this will help any flem from going down the back of his throat and choking,if he co-sleeps with you, make a little angle on the bed with some towels,or same if he sleeps in his crib. You can use a cool mist humidifier in his room as well.

You can try giving him steam baths. Just steam up your bathroom with the door closed and fill up the bath with warm water and sit in there with him. Or you can just sit in the steam for a while with your baby. Also you can use a humidifier at night or during the day. This is so normal because my son had it from about 2mo to 3mo old. I thought it was from a cold that he wasn't getting over but went to the doctor and they said that a small percentage of babies just produce mucus and have congestion. And if this is what it is he should get over it by 3 mo. You can also try saline nasal drops with the bulb syringe.
We also used baby vicks but your son is young so I don't think you can use it on him.
Another big help is elevate his matress if he's sleeping in his crib! If not make sure when he's sleeping his head is elevated it really helps verses laying flat.......Good luck to you and I hope you find peace of mind at the doctors.

First, I would call the doctor, especially if he is having trouble sleeping/breathing. My son had a virus and ended up needing a nebulizer to help open his airways. I would also ask about medications that they might recommend. My son is older and we were told that decongestants during the day and cough supressant at night, but we are also juggling nebulizers and the like. We also have used a cool mist humidifier and vaporizer at times. Good luck!

I'm having a similar problem with my 5 week old daughter right now. We put a pillow under her bassinet sheet to elevate her head and are running a humidifier. Also, if you have a Boppy or other type of breastfeeding pillow, sit him up inside that to nap. It's working wonders for her. My husband was doing the same thing with an adult bean bag chair, but he had to watch really close, as it shifted every time she wiggled.

Turn on just the hot water in the shower and allow the bathroom to get all steamy, then sit in there with him for about 15 min or so. Just play, sing, but try and make sure he is awake so he is taking deep breaths. The steam will moisturize and brake up everything. I hope this helps, It did with my daughter.

You undesirable element - that's tiring sufficient with a nicely 3 week previous and an 18 month previous without colds to boot! I positioned a splash grownup potential vicks in a tissue and fold it up, and then risk-free practices pin it to the interior my toddlers outfits (between the sleep tournament and their singlet). you will get infant saline nostril sprays which skinny the mucus out. Prop up the pinnacle end of the cot. i take advantage of two small products of wood under the legs. better of effective fortune, wish your son gets greater efficient quickly too.

If he's generally happy and feeding well and not in distress, you don't have to rush to the ER, but because of his age, he should be seen by the doctor soon. (If he's in any kind of distress, take him to the ER!)
In the meantime, run a cool mist vaporizer in the house (warm can burn!) and use the bulb aspirator (we call it the "snot snapper" in my circle) to suction out any mucus in his nose. You can soften it with plain saline nasal drops if you need to. Let him sleep in his baby seat - the elevation might make him more comfortable.

Try a humidifier and give him a warm bath before bed. The warm water will help to unclog his nasal passages. You can also place a flat pillow under his mattress to create a slight incline for the mucous to drain rather than settle in his head, making it harder to breath.

The best way to help him sleep at night is put a pillow under his mattress in his crib, so he is slightly elevated - makes it a little easier for him to breathe than if he was laid flat. It is always so awful when little ones are sick and you don't know what to do for them :( As others have said, take him to the doctors, just to get checked out. It's always better to be safe than sorry with infants.
